Stain removal in Harrow

Stain work in Harrow is done as part of a carpet or upholstery clean: general cleaning first, then the marks that survive get treated individually by type.

What usually comes out

Tea, coffee, most food, mud, drink spills, and the grey traffic lanes in a hallway. Fresh spills nearly always do better than ones that have been scrubbed with a supermarket foam, because scrubbing spreads the mark and sets it into the tips of the pile.

What does not

Bleach spots are missing dye, not dirt, and nothing short of a re-dye puts the colour back. Old red wine that has been hot-washed, turmeric, and dye transfer from a rug backing are usually permanent. We will have a proper go and tell you on the day which category yours is in.

Pricing

Included in the room price for ordinary marks. A room full of individual treatment is quoted before we start, not sprung on you at the end.

Large multi-generational Gujarati, Sri Lankan Tamil and Afghan households are common, and shoes-off habits keep grit out of the pile while heavy cooking oil in the air leaves a greasy film that plain hot water will not shift.

Questions we get asked

Do you charge extra for stains?

Ordinary marks are in the room price. A room that needs a lot of individual treatment gets quoted before we start, never added at the end. We clean the whole room first and then go back to whatever has survived, because half of what people call staining is soil and it comes out with the general clean.

I already tried a spray from the supermarket. Have I made it worse?

Possibly. Those foams leave a sticky residue that pulls dirt back to the same spot, and scrubbing spreads the mark sideways and sets it into the tips of the pile. Tell us what you used and where, because it changes what we reach for. Blotting with a white towel and cold water is the safe thing to do.

Can you get red wine out?

Fresh, nearly always. Old wine that has been through a hot wash or somebody’s steam cleaner is a different matter, because heat sets it, and a few of those are permanent. We will have a proper go and tell you on the day which yours is. Bleach spots are missing dye, not dirt, and nothing puts the colour back.

What about the dark track down the hallway?

That is traffic soil rather than a stain, and it recovers well, though not always to the shade of the carpet under the sideboard. Hallways and stairs get extra passes and we allow for that instead of charging for it. Left for years, expect a big improvement rather than a carpet that looks new.
